I’ve been wanting to make my own marshmallows for some time, and thanks to Emeline over at Sugar Plum, I had a recipe I was brave enough to try. I used the marshmallows to top a creation that would be great without additions: butterscotch mashed sweet potato casserole. Ahh, love. Dessert masquerading as a vegetable. [...]

I saw this and I had to have it. I love pomegranates. The seeds look like little jewels, and since I am half magpie, I am attracted to all things shiny. And these taste good too! Nom nom. And really, shiny edible things with chocolate… how could I resist?
After the jump is a photo tutorial [...]

This weeks Tuesdays with Dorrie recipe was selected by Vibi of La Casserole Carree. At first, I wasn’t going to make a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, but my mother informed me that if I didn’t, I’d have some very unhappy men in the house when it came time for dessert. This was an interesting twist [...]

This is my first post with the Tuesday’s with Dorie group. Whoo hoo! This week’s choice was Arborio rice pudding, either vanilla or chocolate. Seeing as how no one in the house is a huge fan of rice pudding to begin with, I thought I’d try the chocolate variation and see if I couldn’t get [...]

I would love to say that I made this cake in honor of my blog’s birthday today, but really, I made it two weeks ago and didn’t post it. I’m in love with Dorie Greenspan’s Baking: From My Home to Yours cookbook, and I announced the other day, much to my husband’s delight, that I’m [...]

This recipe was taken, without any adaptations, from Dorie Greenspan’s “Baking: From My Home to Yours.” I had my doubts about chocolate and gingerbread – they seemed very much contradictory to me when I started, but I was intrigued. This is the best gingerbread I’ve ever had. Cakelike, moist, dense, and rich with flavor. I [...]

Another apple post… I put this into the crock pot after dinner and it was ready in the morning for my husband to put into canning jars. We used the inversion method of canning, and hope none of us get botulism. (I do plan on boiling when I make applesauce later this week.)
Also, for your [...]

We went to a wedding this past weekend, and had the opportunity to visit an orchard. I’ve never picked my own apples before (as far as I can remember, at least) so this was a new experience for me. I did have some Cider House Rules flashbacks (twist at the stem, don’t take the part [...]

This made for a great “breakfast for dinner” alternative food… normally we do regular pancakes, and by “we” I once again mean “my husband” because I can’t flip a pancake to save my life. Well, maybe actually to save my life, but when it’s just dinner as usual, I don’t do the flipping. This does [...]

I know it is September, and temperatures are still approaching 90 degrees. But that means that things that come out of the oven are still not room temperature, so I’m good to eat bread pudding. Really, I want sticky toffee pudding, but I want someone to do all of the work for me. I’ve seen [...]
