“Aussie Meat Pies”
Another recipe from Rachael Ray, although modifiedd because I don’t eat beef. These were reallly fast – about 15 minutes from start to finish. They really lived up to their description in the cookbook – “souped up sloppy joes.” I was dubious about the ketchup on top, but it was really good, especially with the temperature contrast.

- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 Tbs flour
- 3 Tbs Worcestershire sauce (adding more will make it taste more like beef)
- 2 Tbs tomato paste
- 3 Tbs brown sugar
- 1 c. veggie broth (I thought it would be better than chicken in this particular dish)
- 1 Tbs Montreal steak seasoning (or whatever you have)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut puff pastry into 4 equal pieces, and lightly dust with salt and pepper. Cook for about 12 minutes, until poofy and golden.
Heat a non-stick pan over high heat (you want it hot so the meat will brown as you cook/crumble it.) Cook and chop that stuff up until it is all cooked through. Add onion and cook another 4-5 minutes. Add flour, stir, and let cook another 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, and allow to simmer 10 minutes or so until thickened.
Place about 1/4 of your turkey mixture in a bowl, top with a piece of puff pastry, and a squirt of ketchup. I served mine with peas and pearl onions.

Wow, this was really awesome! I made it with beef, and omitted the ketchup, and my fiance LOVED it! I will definitely make this again!
